CHICAGO — Cook County Health is notifying people who visited two medical centers and a building recently about possible exposure to measles.
The two exposures are related to two cases already reported by the Chicago Department of Public Health.
On Feb. 27, a person who later tested positive for measles visited the Stroger Hospital Emergency Department and was admitted under proper isolation and airborne precautions.
Anyone who was at the hospital’s emergency department between noon and 11:58 p.m. should contact the Chicago Department of Public Health at 312-743-7216.
On March 7, a person who later tested positive for measles visited Cook County Health’s Arlington Heights Health Center and Cook County Health’s Professional Building.
Anyone who was at the Arlington Heights facility between noon and 2 p.m. should call the Cook County Department of Public Health at 708-836-8600.
Anyone who was at the professional building between 11 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. should call the Chicago Department of Public Health at 312-743-7216.
Cook County Health said they are following all appropriate reporting protocols and coordinating with patients and staff who were in the vicinity of patients with measles.
Cook County Health said they believe the risk to staff is low because employees are required to be vaccinated.
“We cannot emphasize enough how important vaccination is to preventing the spread of measles,” the release read. “The measles vaccine is safe and highly effective. The vaccine has been used for more than 50 years and two doses are 97% effective at preventing measles. Everyone ages one year old and older can and should get vaccinated.”
