Jonathan Majors sued by ex-girlfriend for assault and defamation

Johnathan Majors’ former girlfriend filed a civil lawsuit on Tuesday in a New York federal court.

In the lawsuit, she accuses the “Creed III” star of battery, assault, intentional infliction of emotional distress, malicious prosecution, and defamation, both BBC and The Guardian reported.

The civil lawsuit comes 3 months after the 34-year-old Marvel actor was found guilty of attacking and harassing his ex, Grace Jabbari, during a March 2023 altercation that happened in New York.

He has the potential to face up to a year in prison for the criminal case, with sentencing set for April 8.

In court documents submitted Tuesday, Jabbari claimed Majors subjected her to “a pattern of pervasive domestic abuse that began in 2021 and extended through 2023.”

The lawsuit accuses Majors of exhibiting “concerning” behavior towards Jabbari as early as September 2021 including “verbal assaults and frightening anger,” before physically attacking her in July 2022.

The lawsuit also claims Majors attacked Jabbari in September 2022, and caused “serious injuries to her body.”

“Soon after, Grace disclosed the physical abuse to a member of Jonathan’s management team in an effort to get him help. Majors was furious when he learned that Grace had outed him as an abuser,” it said.

The suit also said Majors, “resorted to very publicly abusing her reputation” and that he had called her “a liar at every turn … with the goal of convincing the world that Grace is not a victim of domestic abuse but instead a crazy liar”.

Jabbari is seeking compensatory and punitive damages.

Priya Chaudhry, Majors’s lawyer in the criminal case, said the lawsuit was “no surprise” and said Majors was “preparing counterclaims against Jabbari.”

“It takes true bravery to hold someone with this level of power and acclaim accountable. Bravery that Grace Jabbari has demonstrated at every stage of the legal process,” Jabbari’s lawyer, Brittany Henderson, said in a statement to both BBC and The Guardian. “We strongly believe that through this action, truth and transparency will bring Grace the justice that she deserves.”

After Majors was criminally convicted in December, a Marvel studio spokesperson said the studio would no longer work with the actor.

Majors played villain Kang the Conqueror in “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” and the Disney+ series “Loki” and was due to have the starring role in the planned “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.”
