‘Time For Struggle, Not Celebration’: AAP MP Sanjay Singh Walks Out Of Tihar Jail After 6 Months

Aam Aadmi Party’s Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh walked out of Delhi’s Tihar Jail on Wednesday evening, a day after getting bail in the liquor scam case.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday granted Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh bail in a money laundering case related to the Delhi excise policy scam after the Enforcement Directorate said it had no objections. On Tuesday, Singh was admitted to the hospital for a liver-related issue and was discharged today.

Addressing his supporters outside the Tihar Jail, the AAP leader said, “Jashn manane ka waqt nahi aya hai, sangharsh ka waqt hai’…Our party’s senior leaders Arvind Kejriwal, Satyendar Jain and Manish Sisodia are being kept behind bars. I have confidence that the locks of the jail will break and they will come out…”

After the release, Singh also went to Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal’s residence to meet his wife Sunita Kejriwal. The Delhi CM is lodged at Tihar Jail in connection with now-scrapped excise policy case.

The AAP leader’s father Dinesh Singh called son’s release from the jail a “special moment”. “Me, my family, party workers & the party see this as a special moment…,” he said.

Sanjay Singh further said that the AAP was born out of a movement and it is not afraid of anyone. “Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia and Satyendra Jain were sent to jail, why? What is their crime? Their crime is that they want to give good education to 2 crore people of Delhi, want to send the elderly on pilgrimage, want to give free water. Every worker, every leader, every minister and MLA of AAP is standing with their leader Arvind Kejriwal.”

Sanjay Singh Released From Tihar Jail: What Are the AAP Leader’s Bail Conditions Fixed By Court?

The AAP leader was arrested on October 4, 2023 after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) raided his premises in connection with the Delhi excise policy-linked money laundering case.

The ED had claimed that Singh is a key conspirator in the alleged scam and received Rs 2 crore proceeds of crime, and he was closely associated with a number of accused or suspects in this case, businessmen Dinesh Arora and Amit Arora.

The central probe agency further claimed that the AAP leader has gained illegal money or kickbacks which are proceeds of crime generated from the liquor policy (2021-22) scam and that he has also played a role in conspiracy with others.

‘Truth Has Triumphed’: AAP

AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj said, “Sanjay Singh has just come out of the jail and thousands of party workers welcomed him…He (Sanjay Singh) said that this is not the time to celebrate but struggle. Three of our top leaders- Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia & Satyendar Jain are still in jail. Until & unless they are released we will not celebrate we will keep on struggling…”

Delhi Minister Atishi said that the “truth has triumphed”. “For the last two years, they have been investigating this fake liquor policy case. ED conducted several raids but still, they could not find corruption money from AAP leaders…,” she added.

AAP leader Jasmine Shah said Singh’s release proves that there is no money trail as alleged by the ED in the case.

“Sanjay Singh is AAP’s lion…BJP put him behind bars in a false case & no money trail was found. Supreme Court said that this is a false case & a plan to finish AAP. Sanjay Singh being released proves that there is no money trail…The struggle will continue…,” he said.
