Rebecca Ferguson Talks Set Story Fallout

Paramount Pictures

“Mission: Impossible,” “Dune” and “Silo” star Rebecca Ferguson is known for her frankness and playfulness in interviews, making her someone whose great to see in interviews because she speaks her mind.

She made headlines back in late February whilst promoting “Dune: Part Two” when she was asked during an interview on the Reign with Josh Smith podcast about a moment on a film or TV set where she felt proud for standing up and letting her voice be heard.

She proceeded to reveal that an unnamed “absolute idiot of a co-star” who was “number one on the call sheet” screamed at and belittled her in front of the crew and brought her to tears because they were so “insecure and angry”.

The next day, she summed up the courage to tell her co-star, “I never want to see you again”, and when producers said this person had to be on set, she said she got the person to turn around and acted to the back of their head.

At the time she also confirmed the actor in question wasn’t Tom Cruise or Hugh Jackman. Nonetheless as a result, a guessing game quickly sprouted up online regarding whom she might be referring to.

During a recent interview with The Jess Cagle Show, Ferguson revealed she was “not expecting” her comments to go viral like they did:

“Number one, yes, I kind of enjoyed the grab. But what I realized even at the age that I am now – 21 – is it doesn’t matter… I’m me. I definitely think I’m much more open. I also know where my boundaries are. But the point of the interview wasn’t about finding the person – of course, people will be interested. But I was excited about the question, which was a very good question by him

Because the point was: Is there a point in your career where you were treated in a way where you changed your decision on – this is how I formulated it in myself – where you want change, or you will not accept it? And it was such a clear moment for me working with this person.

But I got phone calls from amazing co-stars who I’ve worked with going, ‘You understand what you’ve done, right?!’ And I was like, ‘Oh my God. No, I didn’t think.’ I mean, it’s not my responsibility, to be honest. I don’t really care. You know, ‘You’re great, but my story is my story, and if you’re a good person, then don’t worry about it.’”

The guessing over whom she was referring to has subsequently died down with a number of her former co-stars making shortlists online. However, no-one can definitively point one person down and eventually the chatter moved on.
